Training
Clinical supervision and clinical practice are key to prepare for reassessment of the ear acupuncture protocols learnt when you attended either a MTAT or NADA course. This ensures the maintenance of high health and safety standards, accurate knowledge, precision of acupoint location and needling technique in line with best practice.
Peer to peer clinical practice is a large part of your reassessment process, offering time for professional networking and collaboration in your respective working fields. Refreshing your needle technique and acupoint locations in a permissive, safe, small group environment guided by Anna, your experienced trainer, will help you to continue hone and master your skills with confidence. Reassessment forms part of CPD and provides opportunity to discuss evidence based updates and industry changes.
Reassessment involves a trainer presentation of each individual acupoint and live modelling of clean field practice, point location, patient care and needling technique with stepped instructions at each stage of the protocol at a pace to suit each individual.
An abridged course manual with reminders of key information including health and safety practices, standards and diagrammatic ear charts with function description will be discussed and memory recall by verbal questioning assessed once content is recalled.
Your practical reassessment will take place on real ears involving the needling of a full protocol. Guidance on acupoint precision, technique and patient handling will be given individually until mastered. You may bring an ear model with you to complete your practical assessment on. Further take home support materials include video demonstrations acting as an essential aide memoir for post-reassessment practice.
Top Tips
Bring a strong lighting source (e.g. headtorch), a probe is useful and wear close toed shoes. All equipment will be provided for you including needles.
Reassessment process usually takes 2-3 hours but can vary depending on practitioner practice. You will be supported throughout the whole process.

MTAT reassessment costs are £50 annually and you will generally join the end of a full training course with students at the point of their assessment.

How am I reassessed?
MTAT REASSESSMENT
An annual assessment is mandatory for all NADA practitioners to ensure that the highest clinical practice standards are maintained and in order to remain on the NADA GB register and insured.
Annual fee: £150 (which includes NADA GB annual registration fee.) NADA is a non profit organisation.
Anna Venables, your NADA GB approved assessor will carry out your assessment. You will be notified when your assessment is due by NADA GB or you may contact Anna directly to arrange re-assessment. Re-assessment and refresher should take 2-3 hours depending on practitioner practice. You will be fully supported throughout the whole re-assessment process. For large groups, Anna will be joined by fellow NADA Trainer Nick Shough.
The NADA GB Ear Acupuncture Register is constituted to provide education, certification, excellence in standards and technical consultation for the field of auricular acupuncture. It also provides a list of qualified practitioners, trainers and assessors for the general public and insurance companies - ensure you have consented for this under GDPR consent on the Reassessment and Refresher Application Form.
The members of the network are some of the most highly trained and qualified ear acupuncturists in the UK.
